Draw several original characters using bold outer shapes, then cover their internal details. Ask a partner what they can still recognize from the outline.
Try this
Compare a rabbit with close-set ears and one with more separated ears. Discuss how the outline helps distinguish them without deciding that every character must follow one shape rule.
Take it further
View the outlines at a small size and from a comfortable distance. Give the artist the option to keep an ambiguous silhouette if mystery is part of the design.
