One Less Mouse?! Super Mario Super Jumps Into One of the Highest Grossing Animated Film

From a nostalgic franchise that began in an arcade machine, to jumping across different gaming consoles as a fast-paced platformer, and now earned the franchise $1.3 Billion as the third highest grossing animated film. “The Super Mario Bros Movie” surpassed the first “Frozen” film – one of the most trendiest films in the early 2010s. This position adds another animated film amongst the top ten grossing films for Universal Pictures and Illumination, showing that although the top grossing animated films are predominantly produced by Disney, not every top grossing animated movie has to be under the mouse’s belt.

However, “The Super Mario Bros Movie” has yet to topple the sequel to “Frozen”, falling short by about half a billion, and the current king of animated films: “The Lion King” (2019 Remake). As it stands, the plumber brothers are not strong enough to squish the frozen sister’s second adventure or dethrone the animated king that is Simba. This is still one step past Disney’s horde of top grossing animated films. Perhaps Universal Pictures and Illumination can add another high grossing animated film to their roster – or with the power of Yusha, maybe the next person to reach those charts could be you.
